Water to the top floor of the Burj Khalifa is supplied through a complex multi-stage system that avoids extreme pressure in the pipes and ensures water supply to all one hundred sixty-three floors.

Here's how it works:

• Water Source. Water at the Burj Khalifa comes from Dubai's desalination plants, which process seawater into drinking water.
• Multi-stage system. Water is not supplied to the top by one powerful pump — this would be dangerous as the enormous pressure could burst the pipes. Instead, water is lifted in several stages, pumped from one technical floor to another.
• Technical floors with reservoirs. There are seven special technical floors equipped with water storage reservoirs and booster pumps that increase pressure throughout the height of the building. Technical floors are located, for example, at levels seventeen-eighteen, forty-forty two, seventy-three-seventy five, and one hundred five-five to one hundred sixty-three.
• Pump operation. Pumps lift water to one technical floor. Then the next pump transfers it even higher, to the next technical floor. Thus, water is \"passed from hand to hand\" in this way.
• Use of gravity. When water reaches the upper reservoirs, it can be distributed to the floors below by gravity, which reduces the load on the pumps.

The Burj Khalifa consumes about one million liters of water per day. This amount is comparable to filling an Olympic-sized swimming pool in about two and a half days. Moreover, the skyscraper's air conditioning system collects condensate, which is also reused, contributing to the overall water supply volume.
