Every parent faces this choice: send a child to English and robotics classes or talk to them about goodness and conscience? Bet on grades or on the ability to make friends? This is a false dichotomy. In reality, morality and education do not exclude each other, but priorities must still be set.
Excellent studies are a ticket to the future. Good grades open doors to prestigious universities, provide scholarships, form diligence and discipline. A child learns to set goals and achieve them. They get used to intellectual labor. However, there is a downside. An "excellent student with a syndrome of an excellent student" often fears mistakes, is unable to lose, and envies more successful people. Without a moral core, knowledge becomes a tool for manipulation.
Morality is a system of filters: what is good, what is bad, where the truth is, where the lie is. A child who has internalized principles of honesty, empathy, and mutual assistance from a young age grows into a person who is trusted. Such a child may not be a gold medalist, but they will not betray or deceive for gain.
A moral person knows how to take responsibility for their actions. In the long term, it is this quality that makes leaders.
If you bet only on studies, you can raise a cold, egotistical "wonder" who will look down on a janitor and boast about their diploma. If you bet only on morality but ignore knowledge, the child will not be able to realize their good intentions — they will lack qualifications.
The most dangerous scenario: parents who scold for a four but do not notice that the child has put a button under the neighbor. And vice versa, who are delighted with "kindness" but the schoolchild skips classes.
Do not oppose one to the other. Learning poems is a memory workout, but on the example of poems about friendship. Solving math problems is logic, but on moral content tasks (how many apples need to be given out so that everyone has an equal share). Praise not only for a five but also for honesty. The moral foundation is laid not on special lessons, but by the example of parents: how you react to a beggar, how you discuss colleagues.
If you have to choose what is more important, then the moral foundation is the foundation of the house, and education is its walls. Without a foundation, the walls will collapse. And without walls, the house is not fit for living.
