May 31. A yellow sun, yellow ears of grain, yellow hair. Blonde Day. The brightest holiday of the year (both literally and figuratively). Blondes are loved, disliked, envied, and made fun of. But one thing is undeniable: they beautify the world. And today is their legitimate day. Time to take out the pink dress, put on sunglasses, and smile at everyone. Even those who think blondes are stupid.

Who and When Did They Invent Blonde Day

The exact date of the holiday's birth is unknown. It was first celebrated in the United States in the early 2000s. Two blonde friends decided: why do brunettes have a day (May 28), but we don't? And they chose May 31. Why? Because summer, warmth, sun, hair naturally fades. Europe caught on in the 2010s. In Russia, the holiday became popular thanks to social networks.

On May 31, 2026, it's Sunday. Perfect for a party. You can walk until midnight and not worry about work tomorrow.

There is no official status, but Blonde Day is a trend on the internet. Posts with the hashtag #BlondeDay gather millions of likes.

Myths and Truth About Blondes

The most enduring myth: blondes are dumb. Where did it come from? From the French vaudeville "The Blonde" (1775), where the heroine was naive. Then the film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" with Marilyn Monroe. Anecdotes solidified it. In fact, studies have not found a connection between hair color and IQ. On the contrary: women with a high IQ sometimes choose blonde because they like to be underestimated — and then make a comeback.

The second myth: blondes are more attractive. This is statistics: in surveys, men more often call blondes sexy. But women more often call brunettes beautiful. The third myth: there are few blondes. In fact, they are 2-5% of the population, but with colored hair — up to 20% in some countries (the United States, Sweden).

The fourth myth: blondes don't age. Light hair masks graying, that's true. But wrinkles and pigmentation on light skin are more visible. So blondes start using wrinkle cream earlier.

Famous Blondes Who Changed the World

Not all blondes were actresses. Marie Curie (discovered radium) — a blonde, by the way. Coco Chanel (blonde with a gold tint) — changed fashion. Margaret Thatcher ("the iron lady") — a blonde. Queen Elizabeth II (had light hair in her youth). J.K. Rowling (author of Harry Potter) — a blonde.

Among modern ones: Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron. Russian: Katerina Varanova, Katerina Guseva, Natalia Rudova. Singers: Phil Korkhorov (dyed blonde) — we also congratulate him, why not.

These women prove that light hair color doesn't prevent you from being smart, successful, and influential.

How to Celebrate Blonde Day

In beauty salons — discounts on toning, lamination, styling for blonde. In clubs — parties with a white and gold dress-code, cocktails "Sunlight" (orange juice with vodka) are distributed. On social media — a flash mob: blondes post photos with a "V" sign (Victory) and the hashtag #BlondeDay.

In some cities, they hold blonde parades (Moscow, Kiev, Minsk). Girls walk down the main street, smile, give candies and stickers "I love blondes" to passersby. Men give flowers in return.

Kindergartens also celebrate: blonde girls come in golden wigs and receive gifts. Boys in wigs are also rewarded (in jest).

The main rule of the day: don't be sad, don't envy, don't complain about life. Only joy, only sunlight.

Advantages of Blondes (seriously)

First: split ends are less noticeable (on light hair, they are not as visible). Second: thin hair seems fuller after dyeing (oxidizers lift the scales). Third: a blonde is more noticeable in a crowd. Fourth: blonde goes almost to everyone, except very dark-skinned (you need to choose a shade).

Fifth: blondes can change shades more easily — you can tone in pink, blue, ash. Sixth: gray hair on blondes is almost invisible. Seventh: blondes stay "girls" in men's eyes longer (a stereotype, but it works). Eighth: less skin pigmentation problems (blonde skin is usually lighter, and it's easier to choose foundation). Ninth: blondes are rarely taken for themselves in the dark — they shine (a joke, but there is a grain of truth).

Why Blondes Still Dye Their Hair Other Colors

Natural blondes darken with age. Hair turns into auburn or mousey. Many dye their hair blonde to maintain the image. But there are those who get tired of the "dumb blonde" stereotype and dye their hair dark. On Blonde Day, they remember who they were and put on a wig.

Blonde hipsters dye their hair blue and green — is this also a tribute to blonde? It's debatable. But the trend of recent years — "dirty blonde," "shatush," "balayage" — is not pure blonde, but shades. So there are fewer and fewer natural blondes.

On Blonde Day, you can dye your hair again. Salon discounts will help.

How to Congratulate a Blonde

Flowers — white roses, yellow tulips, daisies (symbols of sunlight). Chocolate — milk, not bitter (association with blonde?). Gift — a mirror (to admire yourself), a rhinestone hairpin, a white scarf. Book — "Blonde in the Law" (a humorous detective novel) or "Bridget Jones's Diary" (the heroine is a brunette, but close).

Don't give: hair growth products (hint?), tonics for dark hair, black things (mourning). Don't say: "You're smart for a blonde" — it's a double compliment with an insult.

The best greeting: a smile and "You're especially radiant today." Blondes love compliments.

Stereotypes: to laugh or to fight

Anecdotes about blondes are an insult or humor? Most blondes are not offended. "I'm the smartest blonde in the world, and it makes me laugh," says one of them. Others organize flash mobs against discrimination. Thirds simply ignore.

On Blonde Day, it is customary to joke about stereotypes, but not cruelly. For example, hold a contest "The Dumbest Blonde" — but the prize goes to the one who refuses to participate. Irony.

The main thing is not to go personal. Not all blondes are the same. Just like not all brunettes are mysterious, and redheads are explosive.

Blonde Day in Different Countries

In the United States — on a grand scale. In Los Angeles, parties are held on rooftops. In New York, a flash mob is held at the fountain in Central Park. In Las Vegas, casinos give blonde girls chips (funny, but players are dissatisfied).

In Brazil — a carnival of blondes (there are few of them, but they are bright). In Japan, girls dye their hair white (and it is considered blonde). In Australia, blondes go surfing with signs "Blondes Don't Fear the Waves."

In Europe — more reserved. In Germany — campaigns in support of women's rights (blondes as a symbol). In France — fashion shows with blonde models.

In Russia — late at night on May 31, the song "Blonde 199" by the group "Rуки вверх" is played in clubs. Everyone sings.

Conclusion: Happy Blonde Day

Blonde Day is not about fashion, not about hair color. It's about the joy of life. About the ability not to take yourself too seriously. About the sun inside. Whether you're natural, dyed, gray, or bald — you can join in. Just wear a yellow sweatshirt and smile.

Blondes, happy Blonde Day! May your hair shine, and life even more so. And remember: foolishness is not in the color of hair, but in actions. And you are geniuses today because you chose joy.
