By the age of 10, parents are no longer superheroes to their child. Authority shifts to YouTubers and classmates. Mom and dad risk becoming the "boring grandparents" who only know to say "clean your room." How can you remain interesting to your child at this age?

Be interested in their world (not diagonally)

Not "how was school?" but "who is your favorite YouTuber? Why?" Watch a video together, laugh. Learn the slang: "crash," "cringe," "sigma." Your child will appreciate that you don't ask the meaning of a word for the tenth time. Ask about memes.

Become a gaming partner

At 10 years old, children love Minecraft, Roblox, Among Us. Ask to be taught how to play. Don't criticize "stupid games," but try to build a house yourself. This brings you closer. Organize a family video game tournament with a prize.

Share your hobbies

If you're a fan of rock music, play songs by the band you listened to at 10. Tell a funny story from your childhood (without moralizing). Show your old sticker album. Watching a movie you loved at their age together also works.

Respect boundaries (but be there)

An interesting parent is not a "friend" who interferes with the phone. It's someone who knows when to be silent. Don't demand hugs if the child doesn't want them. Respect their secrets. And be physically available: sit next to them on the kitchen table, not stuck in the screen.

The main rule: you can't be interesting, but you can become interesting through respect and honesty.
